What is it about all things new that appeals to us? New clothes… new car…new shoes – well that one goes without saying, especially if you’re a woman! How about a new year? At the beginning of every year people around the world celebrate with unmatched fervor.
With each new year we have a renewed sense of determination to achieve various elusive goals by setting resolutions and goals. You get off to a good start going to the gym every day for two weeks and you’re feeling good.
Then it happens. You get tripped up. Literally. You trip and sprain your ankle. It takes weeks before you’re able to get back to the gym and by that time something else has caught your attention and, well, two months later you cancel your gym membership because you realize you’re wasting money. Oh the injustice of it all! It’s like the universe is working against you, out to destroy any resolution you set… Eh hem…I’m speaking from experience here.
But what if we approached each new month with the vigor of the new year? How many more goals would we accomplish? How many New Year’s resolutions would actually develop into habit? I haven’t even walked into my home gym in the last two weeks, but that doesn’t mean all is lost!
You don’t have to wait until the new year to start a new goal. You can start one right now!!!
So, we’re not even half way through this month. What do you want to accomplish in the next 21 days? Monthly goals can be thought of as milestones of yearly goals. Set a goal that is measurable AND attainable. Setting a goal that is unrealistic is just setting yourself up for failure. Seriously.
What do you want to accomplish by the end of January for your business? For your home? For your health? For my business, I not only want to complete my newsletter design, but also FINALLY send one out. You see, I spend time every week working on newsletters of my clients that I am literally shooting myself in the foot by neglecting my own! (Honestly, how is a business truly supposed to grow without a little marketing? I know, right?!!) For my home I need to do a yearly cleaning….lots of nooks and crannies that have yet to be dusted and for my health I have a goal to achieve a specific weight by the end of this month.
These goals are achievable and measurable. Come each new month I will set new goals and attack them with the fervor of a new year. What milestones will you set up for this month? With so much month left, what are you waiting for?
The determination has to come from YOU because no one else can make you do what you don’t want to do.
